Newbridge moved up to second place in Division 1 East with a 13-5 victory over a battling Bedlinog outfit on a boggy Welfare ground surface. After a scoreless first 25 minutes Bridge were rewarded with a penalty by Lewis Robling. After a series of forward rushes and superb line-out work by in-form lock Scott Marasco, Gavin Knapp burrowed his way over the line.
In the second half a sweeping move saw Marasco going over in the corner for a well deserved effort. The second half was littered with infringements and referee Lyn Davies issued several yellow cards which seemed to affect both sides. Bedlinog finished strongly with a fine try near the end. On the whole it was a well deserved victory for the home side but credit must also go to a well drilled Bedlinog outfit.
Team manager Chris Jones added 'We are pleased to get the win under our belts against a plucky Bedlinog side who never gave up. We travel to Blackwood next Saturday very much as underdogs, but that is a tag that we tend to enjoy .'
